Looking back, I think I did my best healing in the winter. I went full force against Lyme during the winter months. I slept hard. I rested hard and I focused on getting to my appointments and sticking with my plan to beat Lyme Disease.

Yep, winter is coming. What’s so suprising is that people don’t think about their health in the winter. It’s like “oh the snow is coming and it gets dark early…better just hang out.”

In our society it’s all about getting fit for the summer, but the real time everyone should think about their health is winter. It’s the perfect time and I’ll tell you why.

In nature lots of animals hibernate during this time so they can come back in the spring healthier, bigger and stronger. Plus they don’t have to go foraging for food in deadly snow drifts. While we don’t have to worry about the food situation (thank goodness), winter is a perfect time to start rebuilding.

Naturally in the winter you want to sleep longer and your body wants to rest. Why not use this time to do the right things so that while you’re resting you’re taking care of the Lyme situation as well. In the summer almost everyone overextends themselves. Kids need to be dropped off at the pool, friends are coming over at 5pm for the barbecue, days are long and sometimes tiring…and if you live in the South…it’s scorching and humid (another MAJOR stressor).

Looking back, I think I did my best healing in the winter. I went full force against Lyme during the winter months. I slept hard. I rested hard and I focused on getting to my appointments and sticking with my plan to beat Lyme Disease.

During the winter make sure you’re eating seasonally. It’s a good time for soups as they are nutrient dense and can be easy to digest, especially for someone who is very ill. Get creative with the soup making. What you eat is the basis for all healing and you need to eat anyways, make good choices!

I also think winter is a good meditative time. Because you have the tendency to hibernate a little more, it’s a great time to really focus on yourself. There is a pretty cool guy named Dennis Lewis who is a master at teaching people how to refocus. While this doesn’t seem very important to people who are sick, I can promise you it is. When you’re ill you have to expend the right kind of energy, the kind that can be helpful, not harmful. All of this matters.

Since I don’t talk about these things when I coach people, please go to Dennis’ website and check it out. Take it seriously. Go to: http://www.dennislewis.org/

A lot of people think that coaching from me has to do with the mental aspect of being sick. Actually I rarely talk about this unless I think someone has some emotional blocks. My Lyme coaching is about putting a plan together based on my knowledge, experience (and tons of it I might add), and your individual health history. This is where I think the medical world goes seriously wrong. Everything that has happened to you health-wise has to be resolved to “cure” yourself of Lyme and to move on with a healthy life (like I have).

You can either try to go for a quick fix (and when does this ever work?) or you can BUCK UP and confront life long issues so you can move on 100% like I have. That annoying pain in your knee for 15 years means SOMETHING. Your current doctor may not think it has anything to do with overcoming Lyme, but I say it does.

So now that it’s becoming winter, it’s the perfect opportunity to start getting your life back on track.

I’ve always said that once you make your mind up to get things right “upstairs” then all the right doors start opening. Once you make the decision that you’re going to get over something, it’s as good as done!

Vaccines- Other Viable Solutions To The Flu

Since vaccines are such a hot topic of discussion right now with the swine flu going around, my personal suggestions for keeping yourself safe are relatively easy.

1) Stay Calm About The Situation. To put this into perspective, look into the past like the bird flu pandemic that never was.

An interesting video sent to me about Vaccines

*My feelings about vaccines concur with those of the people in the video.

2) Get Your Vitamin D Levels Checked. If you don’t get a blood test, at least get the smell sensitive Vitamin D so that you can smell your need for Vitamin D. If it smells good to me, I take 5,000 IUs on that very day. Get this Vitamin D and test yourself.

3) Avoid sugar and processed foods. Sugar decreases the function of your immune system, almost immediately. It is defeating the purpose of taking the Defense.

4) REST UP. When your body is fatigued, it will be harder for it to fight the flu.

5) Use Effective Tools To Pump Up The Immune System. Take Defense Like Me!

Defense is a special blend of Beta Glucans from a Native American herb called Tsi-Ahga , read about it here: http://dietickdie.com/lyme-disease-beta-glucan/ (it’s very cool!).

It does not merely stimulate and excite the immune system, but it causes a pan-systemic, immune cascade, in our bodies. Within 20 hours of taking Defense, the immune response will be twenty to forty times stronger than it normally is! Do not live in fear. Modulate your immune system, and allow your body to defend and protect itself!

Along with taking the Defense regularly, taking the Native Flora Probiotics (contains billions of homeostatic micro organisms, the kind that). Eighty percent of your immune system is located in your digestive system, so enhancing your gut health with probiotics is a very effective method to ward off cold and flu viruses.

Another little interesting tid bit about probiotics: you can give yourself a probiotic enema for maximum results. This is one of the best ways to get rid of Candida (another issue almost all people with Lyme have)… or you can waste time and money by taking a lot of expensive products and absorbing 10% or less of what you’re taking orally (because probiotics have a hard time getting all the way down to the intended destination).

Training Update

I get emails every now and then with people asking me if I’m scared if I’ll regress.

My answer is: absolutely not. I’ve been training hard for a long time now and with everyday I get stronger, fitter and healthier. Everyday is progress forward not just athletically but emotionally and physically.

Everyday I go to the gym I hit a new max with weights. When I’m on the track, I just get faster.

My coaching clients eventually are put on the same maintenance that I am because I do believe that the maintenance I’m doing is working extremely well. But my life after Lyme has been life changing. I’ve taken all that I’ve learned and I stick to it. People looking for quick fixes and who are scared of changing their lifestyle of convenience, will not get healthy and stay healthy. Those who are willing to look outside the box will find success.

*The scar running up the mountain is called The Incline (has an elevation change of about 2,000 feet in one mile). I’ve been using it as training. The mountain in the background is Pike’s Peak. I’ve done it twice now. The first time I went up I was at 33 minutes. I’m down to 28 minutes for the second attempt. Not bad for a Lyme “victim.” If I keep going I might have the record before I leave Colorado Springs (should I mention this is the home of the Olympic Training Center, which means lots of athletes).

Ah, the South is finally cooling off and in the air there is a cool breeze. It’s funny how the first day of September brings a hint of fall, even though it was smoldering last week.

On days like this I know why people from up North love the summer. It reminds me of a cool summer day in Cape Cod and I’m loving it. I’ve had enough of the 100 degree heat with the 100% humidity.

But if summer has been tough for you, now’s the time to start using the weather to your advantage. Summer was a good time to sweat (which is great because you’re moving the detox process along), but with the cooling temperatures it should be your reason to get out and start being more physical. If you don’t USE it, you will LOSE it. And with Lyme Disease, if you’re staying sedentary, you’re sending the wrong signals to your body and that message is that you have given up.

It’s only the second cool day since summer and I’ve already gone into hibernation! The temperature drops just slightly and I’m already sleeping 10-11 hours a night! Most people would be alarmed by this, but I am starting to do hard workouts as my fall training season has begun.

But if you’re ill, then sleeping deeply is a good thing! Don’t fight it and don’t be alarmed by it. I remember sleeping for 15 hours at a stretch when I had Lyme Disease and I also remember sleeping that long when I got Mono (Epstein Barr Virus) in college.

By the way, because EBV never goes away once you get it, having elevated levels for the virus is a good tell-tell that your Lyme is still a problem. Lyme has a way of making viruses like EBV become “active” again.

Some people will say they can’t afford to sleep so long, due to work, etc. But if you feel like you’re not sleeping fully you will need to make sacrifices like missing the TV show that comes on at 9pm and making sure you’re asleep by that time. At first, going to bed earlier seems difficult, but just like with everything your body adjusts. Sleeping from 9pm to 12pm is the most beneficial time to sleep.

And don’t forget that you should never feel badly for sleeping for long periods of time. You’ll live longer, look better, age more slowly, become healthier and can function better.

Just a side note, but the World Record holder for the women’s marathon (we are talking 2 hours and 12 minutes..literally minutes shy of the men’s World Record), is well known for her sleeping habits. Her coach was quoted as saying Paula sleeps longer than anyone I’ve met and she sleeps 12 hrs a night, not including daytime naps! With professional runners, “naps” are really 1 to 2 hour sleeps.

So now that fall is on the way, begin exercising more and start sleeping more!

Swine Flu Is Seriously Hyped

Well, I know a lot of people are going to get upset with me writing this, but the only people dead from it are people with serious medical conditions. Lyme is a serious medical condition, but if you think Swine Flu is bad just wait for the future bio weapons coming down the pipe hole!

What is worse is probably the idea that everyone should be vaccinated…no excuse me…it’s just “strongly suggested” as millions of vaccines are now available so they can inoculate everyone in the world with vaccines which sometimes cause more harm than good.

Well, I think I’ll take my chances. After all I sleep hard, I have an ozone machine, I take therapeutic doses of Vitamin D and I’ve trained my immune system to be a real bully. I personally am ready for the onslaught, because this winter when this “flu” gets passed around big time, I’ll be ready.

If you have Lyme Disease, adding another vaccine (virus) to the mix would be a very bad idea (in my opinion, of course). The problem with people who have Lyme is that they have EVERYTHING already. It’s a giant pot of toxins, viruses, bacteria, mold, parasites, metals (etc. etc.).

If I had Lyme Disease right now (and was sick from it) I would get the tools to protect myself now so that the issue of vaccinating myself wouldn’t be an issue and that if I was exposed to it, I could take immediate action.

I wrote a newsletter a long time ago about Vitamin D and also wrote about using ozone. I’m aware that people find ozone (see it here) very controversial but these are always people who haven’t tried it and want to give their opinions anyway.

I ozonate my water everyday and drink it. To give myself extra oxygen, I ozonate the air in my house for a few hours a day to clean up the air. If I ever find myself with a sniffle or even an earache (because I’ve been long distance open water swimming quite a bit this summer), all I do is stick that ozone in my ear or up my nose for 30 seconds (and in just a few times) WHAM it’s gone! Plus, there are plenty of killer herbs you can take that kill this stuff (including Lyme), which I will be writing about soon. View the ozone machine I use daily.

(You could also use MMS, find our more here) or View the newsletter about MMS here.

Don’t think this would work for Swine Flu? I beg to differ. Cooties are cooties. Killing them is the same for the most part; the symptoms of different cooties are obviously different.

Two interesting points to POINT OUT about Swine Flu:

1) The people making the vaccines (GlaxoSmithKline) are not liable for the damages that it can and has done to people.

2) The drug company that makes the antivirals (mostly Relenza) used to treat Swine Flu (GlaxoSmithKline), will make 50 billion/year off the scare. Guess who else gets that profit? The government in taxes!

..Seriously I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but this is a great time to buy some stock options and play THE BULL on GlaxoSmithKline, because you can profit too!

Lyme Explosion!

The latest public figure to get Lyme is actress Parker Posey. Posey was hilarious as the high-strung wife who wanted nothing more than to have her dog win the Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show, in the movie Best In Show.

She’s not the first, nor will she be the last celebrity. Apparently there has been a 77% increase in Lyme confirmed cases between 2006 to 2008. The CDC (Center for Disease Control) estimates that in 2008 the number of those infected for 2008 was between 250,000 to 422,000.

I personally think their estimate is not anywhere close the real number. The more people I talk to, the more people I realize have IT or have a good chance of having it just by their description of their medical history.

The truth is no one should ever consider Lyme Disease as being a Northeastern thing anymore. Every time I speak to my friends near Charleston, South Carolina (because of their friendship with me and awareness of the tick problem), they are constantly telling me about deer ticks and dog ticks they keep finding, simply because they are paying more attention now!

Be a good friend and a good neighbor. Make sure everyone knows about it! Do what you can in your community or neighborhood to get the word out.
