You may have seen this in the news yesterday, but apparently the FDA is going after MMS (also known as Miracle Mineral Solution) which a lot of people with Lyme try to use as a treatment against bacteria.

You may have seen this in the news yesterday, but apparently the FDA is going after MMS (also known as Miracle Mineral Solution) which a lot of people with Lyme try to use as a treatment against bacteria.

Here are two sources reporting the FDA warning:

http://pagingdrgupta.blogs.cnn.com/2010/08/02/fda-warns-against-using-miracle-mineral-solution/

FDA Press Releaase: http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/fda-warns-consumers-of-serious-harm-from-drinking-miracle-mineral-solution-mms-99656679.html

MMS is Chlorine Dioxide, which most people already know about. I actually used it. So here are my two cents about the warning.

MMS is hazardous, but so are antibiotics. I often get emails from people asking about the use of MMS. I personally used it as my last effort, when I knew I was already out of the woods. I did it as a last go around in my efforts to kill ANYTHING left.

With MMS the usual rules for taking it go as follows: you start slowly with about a drop a few times a day until you have reached about 15 drops of it, 3 times each day. I think this is pretty much an average to above average weight limit protocol. So lightweights should probably half that as the max dosage.

I personally don’t heed any warnings the FDA gives because I don’t trust them. I don’t understand how they approve the use of things (for example: “anti”-depression drugs in general)…almost all the kids who go on shooting rampages are actually on antidepressants.. but you never hear about that in the news, now do you? The FDA also states that certain contaminants in water (like Arsenic) are safe in certain levels….yeah, right!

I like to stay neutral on such hot topics.

My personal experience with MMS is that by the time I tried it, I was 90% over my Lyme symptoms and really just wanted to “clean house.” Boy, did I “clean house” with it. It’s like drinking pool water and I could tell it was toxic. Even though it’s natural, it’s still toxic in high quantities. I used it with great caution, like most people should.

I was pretty healthy at the time when taking it and once I went into a loading phase of it (15 drops, three times a day) by the second day I started vomiting. I had hit my limit. Some people with Lyme are so ill that they will take a drop of this and become extremely ill. The reason is because MMS kills more than just Lyme. It’s good against all kinds of “cooties.” Most people with Lyme are filled with everything…everything that shouldn’t be there.

I NEVER suggest people who are really ill with anything take something like this because there are good alternatives that aren’t as damaging. There are plenty of antimicrobials that are very effective against Lyme and other viruses when a Lyme plan is put together and you can address each specific issue.

I believe that MMS should be used as a last effort in the same way I did. Just to “clean house” if there are any doubts. If you can build up to the loading phase, you’re in very good shape as far as your pathogen load goes. However, it’s not something anyone who is seriously ill, should do.

Do I believe that Jim Humble (West Nile) went to Africa and cured all these people? Yeah, I do. I bet MMS does get it really good.

The reports about it being dangerous cite: nausea, vomiting, even dangerously low blood pressure caused by dehydration.

Have you ever seen ads on TV about the negative effects for, let’s say that birth control ring you stick up in your uterus? It’s everything from blood clots, strokes, heart attacks, myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, cerebrovascular accidents and death. ..and analysts say NUVA’s earnings are going to grow at a rate of 40.85 percent this year!

I got the typical nausea and vomiting (but never low blood pressure caused by dehydration from using MMS, because I drink a lot of water and take my electrolytes!). I was pretty satisfied with knowing I had licked the Lyme and probably some other viruses, protozoa, amoebas and cell wall deficient bacteria. Everyone has cell wall deficient bacteria in their blood…including “healthy people.” Because I stay hydrated and take medical grade electrolytes, I waited a day after my vomit spell and I was back to normal.

So if you use MMS obviously use your head and think clearly. If you take a few drops and fall to your knees, then you need to rethink your Lyme recovery attack plan.

Is MMS just another product to get blasted by the FDA because of its many uses and the fact you can’t sell it for much more than a few bucks? I’m not saying that. I have no idea.

I get into conversations all the time with my medical friends, those who are nurse practioners, dentists and doctors and their concerns over the supplement industry are that at least drugs are prescribed and the doses are controlled. A very valid point!

My feelings are let people decide what they want to do. Don’t ever let the government control the supplement industry (because there WILL always be special interests that win in the end).

Taking the wrong things, natural supplements included can cause negative symptoms, but the benefits of using supplements to recover from all types of diseased states and health complications far outweigh the critics’ points. You just have to use your head, do research and make your own educated choices. It’s no different than getting bad advice from a doctor or other health professional, because they too make mistakes…and sometimes deadly ones. I know everyone with Lyme disease has a story they would like to tell about what happen to them while dealing with the medical system.

Finding a good doctor to do diagnostic testing is important. So don’t skip this step, but for a full recovery, it’s very important to know everything that’s out there to have a complete plan for getting healthy.

If you use MMS, make sure it’s at the end of your Lyme journey…NOT the beginning or you will be may sorry for it will make you suffer for sure!

For most people with Lyme, it’s important to get off gluten. It’s just not really good for anyone…even those who are NOT intolerant.

I’m making these bars for an upcoming trip (http://www.elanaspantry.com/power-bars/). It’s slightly embarrassing to admit, but I’m going to the world’s largest Star Trek convention as a babe from the Starfleet Enterprise and I will be doing lunch with Klingons (trying to forge peace, I guess). If I am brave enough, I’ll post some pictures, but don’t count on it. I’m not sure I want to admit to how geeky I really am.

Elana, besides being a cooking babe, has a great website about cooking gluten free food and the best part is that it’s easy. If you are complaining about food costs (especially eating organic) you can try some of these recipes.

I personally love sports bars (which are usually NOT gluten-free), but when you eat 3 each day it gets expensive. I’m making her “power bars” this time. My sister likes sending me recipes and I believe she made her chocolate torte once.

Since I’m on a running break, I’ve been able to pump out the last odds and ends that need to get done before print time for my new book, The Tick Slayer.
During my running break, I finally can do my yearly detoxing, which includes going after metals, parasites (anything I’ve accumulated over this year) and doing some organ restorative work. I hope to write about this in the upcoming newsletter. This is something I cannot do during training and racing. Your body sees detoxing as work and you do expend energy to detox, so obviously it doesn’t coincide with times I’m expending copious amounts of energy training/racing.

The good news is that this year I’ve had very little to no herx of any kind detoxing. Even my parents still go through a detox program each year and they didn’t even have Lyme. I was expecting something…maybe a tongue coating, a slight fever, a few spots on the skin, fatigue, but haven’t gotten anything. Ah, I’m so excited about this. The changes I’ve made over the years have really made a huge difference and I knew they would.

The last newsletter I wrote about using geomag frequency to nullify chemicals in your water, tap or bottled. I got an email from a very educated gardener about how my experiment was flawed. She said that I let one glass (the charged water) sit to “gas off” and that many gardeners let their tap water sit out to “gas off” chlorine and other chemicals. While I was happy for the interesting tip, I had to tell her that the water did not sit out. The roses were cut the same time, placed in the water at the same time immediately (one in charged water and one NOT in charged water.) The point was to show how the chemicals were nullified, although not removed and lessened the damage done to the oxidation of one of the roses. The only variable in this experiment was the water being charged in one of the glasses for 12 hrs…that’s it.

I would not have had multiple variables as this lady implied. Geomagentic frequency is ancient. It’s used in all kinds of technology, but really hasn’t been applied to the health field, until recently. I was simply reporting my findings, which all of you have the right to know. Those who have cards can try it, so you can see it for yourselves.

I also mentioned in several newsletters that you need to get a RO unit for your house and also charge your water as a great way to treat your water CHEAPLY and very EFFECTIVELY. To go an extra step, ozonate it right before drinking especially if you’re ill! See my water newsletter here: http://dietickdie.com/lyme-disease-wellness-with-water/

If you ever have a question about anything I write, please either post it on the blog as feedback and I will reply back, or email me personally, if you have concerns. I’m trying to educate, not force my opinions on anyone. I’m simply speaking as a person who has done very well beating an “uncurable disease” because I do think outside the box….far outside sometimes.

Lyme Diet

There is so much information on eating for Lyme Disease that it can’t possibly fit all in this newsletter. So what I’m going to do is break up these points for future newsletters and include some basic information right now.

I hate to use the word DIET because it sounds like you’re eating to lose weight. Let me just say I’ve always been on a diet, but it’s never been to lose weight, because if you make the right choices, then you won’t have to worry about weight. It’s ALL about choices.

My first tip is to get your FOOD ALLERGIES TESTED. I’m gluten intolerant and struggled since high school with all kinds of strange symptoms from it until it was finally diagnosed with one year left to go in college. It’s the reason why I didn’t go to med school. It was simply because I felt like my doctors had totally failed me. What a simple solution to all of my problems and never did anyone say, “maybe it’s something you are eating!” Instead, I was the crazy one. Ever felt this way?

You can get a FOOD STAT blood test done to find out what you react to. Big tip is to eat all types of foods (whether you think you’re allergic to it or not, eat it) so that your reaction to the test will show up. I don’t ever eat GLUTEN and so my gluten reaction didn’t show up this last time I was tested. I should have nibbled on some bread right before the test.

Food can be an amazing healing device. Just think when you take a supplement and how SMALL it is. Then think about how many serving sizes of that supplement would fit into your lunch portion or dinner portion.

I have a lot of food rules so I’m going to go through just a few today.

#1: Stop eating processed foods. You probably have heard this. Not only do you not get the nutrients that you need, but you’re probably getting calories you don’t need either. When shopping for food in the grocery store, stick to the perimeter of the store. I hardly ever go down the aisles unless it’s for spices, salt, balsamic vinegar, etc.

#2: Consume dairy products free of hormones. Eat RAW dairy if possible. Hormones run wild when you are diseased because your body can’t regulate itself, but adding to the problem is when you start eating foods from animals which are passing on certain hormones to screw up your balances even more. Thanks to local South Carolina farmers, you can get raw milk which is full of enzymes and I’ve been drinking it for years now. LOVE IT. Pasteurization kills the good stuff…in all packaged foods.

Wonder why 10 years old girls are starting to get their periods and have boobs? We live in an industrial country, even in the South (thanks to the Civil War, and of course, it was probably inevitable anyway.) We simply are over-estrogenized. So stop eating out of plastics (whenever possible) because they leach chemicals that increase this phenomena. Don’t microwave in plastics. Don’t drink hot liquids in styrofoam cups! I majored in Packaging Engineering and I know things about plastics that are REALLY scary.

#3 Consumer meat products which are free of hormones. Meat is not bad to eat. I think some blood types do better with less meat and some do better with more meat. I’m 0+, which means I need meat. When I train and race, if I don’t eat beef three times a week I feel like terrible. When I’m not training or racing, I find other sources of protein and maybe eat meat once or twice a week.

When I go into a grocery store I start thinking about how the animals were processed because happy animals taste better and are better for you. When animals are treated poorly and are scared to death when they are slaughtered their muscles are full of adrenaline. Not a good substance for you to be eating.

(http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6T9G-4SHF4PW-1&_user=10&_coverDate=09%2F30%2F2008&_alid=938818708&_rdoc=36&_fmt=high&_orig=search&_cdi=5114&_sort=d&_docanchor=&view=c&_ct=900&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_urlVersion=0&_userid=10&md5=ef239c7a4d671285799ccdd8cc2dcf32 ) *This is a safe link, even though it looks like it isn’t.

And to be honest because I am familiar with how these animals are processed I know if you knew how bad it was, you wouldn’t be eating these major brands either. I personally don’t want to be part of the problem. I know by consuming it, I am. Therefore, I have found other solutions which keep me healthier physically and HAPPIER.

Most people don’t even think about this when they are picking up those little plastic wrapped trays of meat in their grocery store. But perhaps you’ll start doing this because it’s not only the right thing to do for humanitarian reasons, but it is right for your health.

#4 Buy Local. In South Carolina there is a movement to eat products born and raised in South Carolina. I’m sure other states are already doing this. It’s so easy to get your groceries from local farmers who sell directly to people. It means lower costs and higher quality foods.

Produce grown by locals usually aren’t stripped farm (a common commercial farming technique.) This means the produce is grown in soil which has more nutrients. It also means it’s picked when it’s ripe, not picked green (which means it hasn’t had enough time on “the vine”.) A lot of the produce in grocery stores has little nutrient value. So buy local produce.

Meats that are raised and slaughtered locally mean animals don’t have to go through the grueling processing which is cruel and unusual. I read an article in the Wall Street Journal about how smaller farms are now using mobile slaughterhouses so their animals can be processed right at home. A farmer was interviewed, who names all of his animals and he said it was the best way for them to die. Each animal is called over, away from the others and is slaughtered so quickly it doesn’t have time to even know what’s going on. The meat is healthier and tastier as a result.

In SC we can get buy an entire cow, have it slaughtered (the natural way) and put it in the freezer. We hardly buy meats from the grocery store now and when we do we buy “certified humane” and “no growth hormones” and “grass feed”. Is it worth the extra cost? HECK YES. Food is essential and if you eat junk, well…you know the old saying.

#4 Stop eating PORK. This is a hard one because I think the #1 indulgent food is PORK. People LOVE pork. But you have to know Jews and Muslims got this right. They don’t eat pork for religious reasons, but it might as well be for health reasons! I’ve been reading way too many studies that show pork consumption causes an inflammatory response in humans. With so many Lymies who have inflammation, why add to it?

I’ve been off pork for a long time and will stay off. I know that if I’m ever craving pork, it’s almost always because I’m low in Niacin. Yep, pork has a ton of Niacin and other B-vitamins. If I’m craving pork and I smell my smell sensitive vitamins, the Niacin smells wonderful (the clue that I need it.)

*** At the conference I was horrified to hear about certain research that has been done on GMO foods. GMO stands for Genetically Modified Foods and while I knew this was an issue, I had no idea how bad this situation is for our own health. I’ll write about it in the near future (hopefully this week).

This newsletter has gotten long enough, so the Lyme Diet information will continue. I’m almost finished re reading Dr. Maffetone’s Eating For Endurance which has great information in it. So I’ll be discussing some of his points in the near future.

Expect the best,
