Yesterday I rolled my ankle. I haven’t done this in a very long time (actually since college due to the stability exercises I do for my ankles and lower legs), but after a short track workout and then a subsequent tempo run I was tired and my body got lazy. I could swear the rock hit me, but I’m sure it was probably my fault.

The reason why I’m writing about this for the first part of the newsletter is my recovery from this injury. After I rolled it, I got up and walked. Then once somewhat comfortable, I jogged on it. In most rolled ankle cases, it’s a good thing to keep walking or even jogging, if possible (even if that means being in a little pain at the beginning). After I started jogging on it, I was able to go back to a comfortable run (although I knew my ankle was not in stellar shape). Then I made a critical mistake of NOT icing when I returned home. I was more concerned about calories and replacing what I lost during my workout.

It wasn’t until 8pm that night (while doing laundry) that I couldn’t stand on my ankle. I was so upset at myself for not taking care of the problem quicker and I was SURE that I had a serious injury. I was in a lot of pain and I think the inflammation finally caught up with me.

So quickly, I started an ice bath for my foot. It was excruciating. (I cried.) After 15 minutes I started applying my geomagnetic card for 3-4 minutes and then icing intermittently. Furthermore, I drank 3 tablespoons of aloe mixed with MSM and a horde of fish/flax oils. (This was all for the inflammation.) Then for the finale, I had some DMSO gel (a natural organic solvent that can be found in vet stores). I mixed arnica oil, aloe oil and a crushed up “expired” ibuprofen. (Because I so rarely ever take anything for pain I had one packet in an emergency kit in my car.) All of this was mixed with DMSO and applied to my ankle to “marinate.” DMSO is a great carrying solvent. I was able to send the “goodies” straight to the source of the problem.

Then when I went to sleep I slept with my geomag card inside my sock on top of my ankle.

More Information On Geomagnetic Cards/Products (see the newsletter on GeoMag Cards)

Here’s another newsletter about Mineral Deficiency, but I post pictures of the geomag card working on a nasty bruise…see how quickly it helps heal a nasty bruise-WOW!)

I was POSITIVE I would wake up with a colorful ankle and major pain (and probably wondering how I was going to keep training/racing for the outdoor season), but this morning there was no evidence at all of an injury…just a little stiffness! I’m planning on hitting it hard again on the track tomorrow.

The point I’m making is that healing can happen very fast under the right conditions. I took something internally, I applied something topically, I used geomagnetism and then on top of that I used a basic physical therapy practice- ice! Attacking health issues from multiple approaches will ALWAYS produce more of a synergistic healing effect than just using ONE method. Think about this the next time you go see your doctor and always ask, “what else?”

I’ve mentioned before in other newsletters how important it is to take a good long look at everything that could be affecting your health. I found these guides and have already sent them to all of my friends and family. Please do the same by forwarding this email to them.

Part of getting healthy from Lyme Disease is limiting your exposure to all things toxic to the body and with less exposure your body can function the way it was designed (meaning killing invaders and keeping YOU healthy). It’s not the easiest thing to do at first (changing your choices), but since you are going to eat, use a cell phone, use toothpaste, etc. …might as well just CHOOSE the better option for your health.

Lyme Questions From People Everywhere

I get loads of emails and I don’t mind going through it all (with help usually), but I’ve decided to post some questions in my newsletter and answer them for everyone.

Q: Can you detox while on antibiotics?

A: Yes, of course you can. Detoxing with numerous protocols is something that everyone sick or NOT sick should be doing. There are obvious precautions you have to take while detoxing on sulfa-drugs. For example, let’s say you want to go jump in a sauna and while that is a great way to detox, I would never do it for more than 15 minutes at a time (depending on the temperature). You can become quite ill from the sauna. It can be draining and you sweat vital minerals and electrolytes out (which most people with Lyme are VERY deficient in already). This can exacerbate the problem and is the reason why I think so many people can get even sicker by doing this.

Last week I was in the dry sauna at the gym. I often do this a few times a week as a detox, but also to get the lactic acid out of my legs after track workouts. I alternate between “spinning,” which is low resistance/ high turn over on a stationary bike and the sauna (fantastic way to recover from hard exercise). While in there, a little old lady who must have been 80 years old was complaining about her heart pills, how dizzy she was, and how she had terrible leg and feet cramps due to her medication. It was 180 degrees in the sauna, but she refused to leave when I (politely) suggested she not do the sauna that day. I really didn’t feel like doing CPR on this old lady and thankfully she left after a few minutes.

If you are on meds your body is already fighting to maintain its balance, so hitting the sauna at this time could create a very bad situation.

Safer detox methods are usually encouraged, but any kind of detoxing is still going to have some side effect. You just have to figure out what you can handle and always work your way up. Put your toe in first to test the water.

Q: If you were sick again, what type of doctor would you go see?

A: This could get me in trouble, but it’s my OPINION I would never see anyone conventional. From my own experience, you don’t have to do a single bit of conventional tactics to get over Lyme, but you do have to think for yourself and you do have to implement (like the way an athlete is persistent in training, it’s no different). I like Integrative Medical doctors and D.O. docs. They just seem to have their heads screwed on tighter and are accepting of the fact that there are methods of treatment that may not make sense to them, but WORK . Theories are “just theories” but we use them everyday with modern technology.

If I knew I had an acute infection, I would consider a conventional doctor if I knew I could get a good quick dose of antibiotics, but knowing that most cases are chronic, I would start thinking the opposite of most people and ask but WHAT ELSE BESIDES BACTERIA? That’s the key.

And lastly, anyone who could educate me and give me a heads up (been there and done that), I’d be ALL over that!…meaning, like I did before, I would take the entire situation into my own hands and find the solutions through any means necessary.

Q: How successful are your coaching clients at getting healthy?

A: VERY. This is the interesting part. Most of them are young women with children. I’ve said this before in a newsletter. They are young, intelligent and often have a small child or two (so they have something to live for). They are terrified at being sick forever and are smart enough to realize that to get over this they have to do things “different.” They are also all very good implementers. There have only been a few coaching clients (that I know of) who aren’t implementing, but perhaps they are going at their own speed and this is important because when you start doing the RIGHT things, the only thing you cannot control is TIME, because time becomes a factor in recovery.

Just take the simplest issue here that I always hound people on in my newsletter: Nutrition. Once you start repairing a nutrition problem, it will take at least 3-4 months to build your storages back up…meaning everything that was affected by NOT having certain nutrition needs TIME to now correct itself. It’s not overnight, although some people have “miraculous” energy increases immediately by just giving themselves the right “goods.” But they have to be careful because while they may feel good, they are still in recovery mode. I made this mistake in my Lyme journey. I went back to training in 2008, post LYME and I didn’t have the STORAGES to do the training and I boinked and regressed slightly (enough to NOT contend in the Olympics). The journey was a tough lesson as it is for everyone, but I love being able to help people get through it faster and smarter than they would by themselves.

A few days ago I heard from someone I coached last year. I saw her in South Carolina right before I started racing the track indoor season (January sometime). She looked tired and was in the middle of doing her final “kill” (that’s what I call it). She did mention just feeling kind of drained. We talked for a while and I told her to keep going. And this week when I heard from her, she says, “I am doing really well right now – I actually mowed my yard today –OMG I have incredible energy, like almost too much…. if that is possible..” She said she was still going forward with everything and still had some facial spasms left (which are also recoverable). TIME was the only factor she and I could not account for. I knew it was only time that was the final factor, but I’m sure she is starting to see that now for herself.

But back to the question, I get a lot of really nice emails from coaching folks, when I hear back, it’s always positive.

Q: I’ve been sick for almost 9 years now and I am feeling better than I did years ago, but feel like I should be way better off now. How long must I be sick for before I get better?

A: When it comes down to TIME and HEALING, my suggestion to you is this: If you are progressing, you should be happy. However, if progressing at a snail’s pace is not making you very happy, you must look elsewhere for guidance and treatments. Now that I can look at coaching clients, I’ve seen the worst cases recover in less than a year. Not saying that’s possible for everyone, but I’ve coached deathly ill people and I have seen people turn it around quite quickly (and believe me when you have been chronically ill and you say you are recovered “fully” within a year…that’s quite significant). It took me 4.5 years and I’m still not “OK” with it taking me so long.

So far so good. If you received my last newsletter then you know that I was bitten again by a tick about a week ago, but THIS TIME I was prepared for it. ( If you didn’t read it, read it here on my Lyme Disease Blog. Just scroll down until you get to the title Bitten By A Tick Again! Read what I did to fight it quickly! )

The good news is that I still don’t have any symptoms from the tick bite and the rash from the bite is about 80% better. This is great news knowing that it took my bull’s eye rash from a deer tick in 2003, almost 4 years to go away!

I expected the aftermath of this new infection to go exactly the way it’s going. My theory is correct. I strongly believe if you prep your body for invaders then your body can fight efficiently. After all, we have an immune system! It’s wondrous and science still doesn’t tell us exactly how it works.

So no symptoms at all from the actual infection. BUT, I’m having some negative symptoms from the Doxy I decided to take as a SUPER PRECAUTION. Because I could identify the tick (Dog Tick), the subsequent rash is most likely RMSF; see the picture on my blog. I knew that taking a short course of Doxy is just a good way to be super prudent in this situation.

Had I not known I was bitten or developed a rash of any kind (remember, when you get a rash it means you’ve already been exposed to that bacteria/pathogen), like most people, I’m still pretty confident that because of my preparation, my lifestyle, and the health tools* I use everyday that my body would be able to fight effectively. *I’ll be talking about many more things I used in the future, because I have an opinion on just about everything.

Who knows when I’ll be bitten again! Who knows how many times any of us have been bitten or how many times we will continue to be bitten and exposed to the same diseases. I refuse to live in a bubble. I refuse not to go outside because I enjoy being outside.

Physiological Problems From Antibiotics

I know lots of people are on long term antibiotics to try to reduce their load of bacteria from tick born illnesses. Unfortunately, when you pick up your prescription there is no warning that says MAY CAUSE YOU TO ACT UNLIKE YOURSELF. I’m sure Big Pharma would say that these antibiotics do have some side effects but they would never cause mental problems.

What I noticed this time around, is that as soon as I started taking the Doxy I had severe depression. It was like my mood had changed from PERKY to MELANCHOLY within hours.

My guess for why this happened is because I had some testing done to prove that I can’t detox antibiotics well. Which means a little goes a long way and taking medications or exposing myself to certain pollutants will cause other negative symptoms to occur, including MENTAL issues.

In fact, I believe most people have some type of defunct enzymes in their detox pathways which won’t allow processing of certain chemicals. This is how evolution continues. Genes change over time. It’s the same reason why so many white people (mostly Anglo-Saxons) have problems with gluten or have allergies to wheat (because we’ve been eating it for thousands of years).

Now Bartonella, one of the stars of Lyme Disease is bacteria that can cause rage in people and it is bad enough to have. I believe most people with Lyme Disease have Bartonella. A sick tick…is carrying a plethora of bacteria.

But getting on medications to treat Lyme Disease can cause a DOUBLE WHAMMY OF EMOTIONAL TURMOIL.

Think about the chimp who “ripped off the face of his caretaker” and did you read the part where the chimp was being treated for Lyme Disease. Not only did he have Lyme, but he was also on medication. I believe that chimp was having a serious out of body experience due to bacteria and drugs. Obviously living with an adult chimp is a choice most of us would not make, but I’m sure this probably would not have happened if the circumstances were different.

And how about that kid in Tennessee who went into his church and shot his preacher earlier this year? The mom was reported saying that her son wasn’t behaving like himself and he was being treated for Lyme Disease.

As some of you know I’m writing a tell-all book about my Movie-Like-Audacious life of track and field and full recovery from Lyme Disease. And I will tell you there is a part in the book about how insane I was becoming while being on high doses of antibiotics. (I was plotting to kill my neighbors at one point and that is very creepy, because it is 100% true.)

Expect the Best,

Perry
